James V. Allred Unit

Allred Unit is a prison located in Wichita County Texas.  The facility is situated on 320 acres and has the capacity to house 3,722 adult male offenders and employs approximately 939 people.  Allred Unit is a maximum security facility whose large inmate population has earned it the distinction of being one of the largest of it's kind.  Inmate's are housed in four distinct categories, general population, safe keeping, administrative segregation and the high security expansion cell block.

Educational opportunities for inmates at Allred Unit include adult basic education and GED classes, literacy courses, and vocational training in automotive air conditioning repair, masonry/bricklaying, electrical, and small engine repair.  Offenders can participate in various agricultural operations which include working in a garden located at the facility.  Allred Unit offers on site medical services which include an infirmary, dental treatment and mental health services.

Visiting Hours for Allred Unit:

Inmates at Allred Unit have visitation on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-5pm for all offenders.  Expansion cell block has visitation Monday through Friday by appointment only.  All visitors must be on the inmate's approved visitors list before they can attend a visiting session.
