Brown Creek Correctional Institution

Brown Creek Correctional Institution is located in Polktown North Carolina, part of Anson County.  It is a medium/minimum security prison that houses up to 1,224 male inmates.  The prison is comprised of two facilities, a medium custody main facility, and a minimum custody facility.  Inmates in the medium facility are housed in eight housing units, with four dormitories in each.  Offenders in the minimum facility are housed in five housing units, each comprised of two dormitories.  Additional segregation units are located at both facilities, and reserved for difficult to manage inmates.

Brown Creek Correctional Institution has medical and dental services available to all offenders.  While incarcerated here, inmates can participate in work assignments working on road crews, or conducting maintenance, custodial work, or kitchen work within the institution.  Additionally, the Correctional Enterprise program operates a metal products plant that employs select inmates in manufacturing various metal goods.  Vocational training is provided in carpentry, culinary services, veterinary technician, masonry, electrical and horticulture.  Inmates can also receive adult basic education and earn a GED.  One of the unique programs at Brown Creek Correctional Institution is called "new leash on life", and allows inmates to work with shelter dogs.

Visiting Hours at Brown Creek Correctional Institution:

All visits for medium custody inmates must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance by calling (704)-694-4117 Monday-Thursday from 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm.  Offenders are allowed a maximum of three visitors, including children, per visiting session.  You may arrive up to thirty minutes prior to the start of the visiting period to register.

  • General Population inmates have visitation on:
    • Sundays in one hour sessions from 8am-9am, 9:30am-10:30am, 1pm-2pm, 2:30pm-3:30pm
    • Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in two hour sessions from 8:30am-10:30am, 1:30pm-3:30pm
    • Thursdays in a two hour session from 8:30am-10:30am
    • Non-contact general population inmates have visits on Thursdays from 1:30pm-3:30pm
  • Road Squad inmates only have visits on Sundays and Mondays
  • Security Threat Group (STG) inmates have visits on Thursdays from 1:30pm-2:30pm
  • Segregation inmates have visits on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12pm-1pm

Minimum custody inmates have visits that do not require an appointment, you must however still be on the inmates visitation list, and have an approved visitors application on file.  Visiting times are determined by the first letter of the inmates last name.

  • Last Name D-J on Saturdays from 2:30pm-4:30pm
  • Last Name K-R on Sundays from 12pm-2pm
  • Last Name S-Z on Sundays from 2:30pm-4:30pm
