El Dorado Correctional Facility

El Dorado Correctional Facility is located in Butler County Kansas.  It is a mixed custody prison that houses over 1,600 medium and maximum custody inmates.  The facility itself consists of the central unit, the Southeast Medium Unit, and the Southeast Minimum Unit.  The Central Unit houses maximum security offenders who are difficult to manage, violent, and have shown uncooperative attitudes towards authority.  El Dorado Correctional Facility is also responsible for receiving and diagnosing all male offenders in the state.  After processing, many of the inmates are sent to their permanent facility which has programs that match the offenders treatment needs.

El Dorado Correctional Facility offers inmates education, vocational, counseling, self help, and mental health services.  Offenders can participate in a 13 week parenting course that helps them develop their parenting skills, it also allows the inmates to spend time with their child as a caregiver for an hour and a half session over the course of several weeks.  Anger management, grief/loss, cognitive self awareness and behavior modification are all courses inmates can participate in while incarcerated.

Visiting Hours at El Dorado Correctional Facility:

The visiting schedule at El Dorado Correctional Facility is by the inmate's Las Name, and rotates every six months.  The rotation occurs the first weekend in January and the second weekend in June, because of this we ask all potential visitors to call the institution to ensure they visit at the correct time.  The visitation schedule rotates as follows:

  • From January 1st to the second weekend in June
    • Inmates A-L
      • Saturday 8:30am-11am
      • Sunday 12pm-2:30pm
    • Inmates M-Z
      • Saturday 12pm-2:30pm
      • Sunday 8:30am-11am
  • From the second weekend in June to December 31st
    • Inmates A-L

      • Sunday 8:30am-11am
    • Inmates M-Z
      • Saturday 8:30am-11am
      • Sunday 12pm-2:30pm
