Greene Correctional Institution

Greene Correctional Institution is a minimum security prison located in Maury North Carolina.  It has the capacity to incarcerate 616 adult males and has a segregation unit that can hold 40 inmates and is reserved for offenders with safety/security concerns or who become difficult to manage.  Inmates can work jobs within the institution performing supportive roles in food services, custodial maintenance, landscaping, and general facility maintenance.  Additionally, some inmates may be selected to work jobs within surrounding government agencies and may even be granted work release.  Work release allows an offender to report to a job in the private sector during the day and return to the prison at the end of their shift, preparing the inmate for life after release.

Greene Correctional Institution has several programs available to help inmates with alcohol and substance abuse issues, these include Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous.  Vocational courses are provided for inmates through a sponsorship with Lenoir Community College offering training in HVAC, computer applications, and electrical wiring.  Additional education courses are offered and include adult basic education and the ability to earn a GED.
