Greensville Correctional Center

Greensville Correctional Center is a major male correctional institution located in Jarratt Virginia.  Major institutions like Greensville house medium to maximum custody offenders.  Inmates of medium security are housed in a dormitory setting, while maximum custody inmates are housed in cells in a designated maximum security area.  Greensville Correctional Center was built as a maximum security institution, and later was designated a medium security prison when other facilities opened, and began to house the most violent and dangerous inmates instead of Greensville.  The facility is secured by two razor wire perimeter fences and six armed guars towers.  Greensville Correctional Center is currently where the execution chamber is located, and is responsible for carrying out all executions in the state of Virginia.

Inmates are housed in 4 pod style buildings setup in a semicircle.  Greensville Correctional Center building one is where the Virginia Correctional Enterprise wood shop assembly operation, kitchen, commissary, libraries, chapel, visiting area, gym, and dining halls are located. Building two houses the sex offender residential treatment program, and the mental health unit.  Building three is where the laundry, office, and another VCE wood shop are located.  General population inmates inhabit units 1 through 9 while the segregation inmates are housed in unit 10.  The Greensville Minimum security work camp is located next to the main complex.  Inmates in the minimum security unit is responsible for preparing inmates for discharge and providing the essential skills they will need.
