William P. Hobby Unit

Hobby Unit is a maximum security mixed custody prison for women located in Marlin Texas.  The facility houses up to 1,384 female offenders of minimum to maximum custody levels.  The facility is made up of fifteen buildings, and contains 24 dormitories.  This facility also has a twenty cell segregation unit.  Inmates can work in an on site print shop and within the prison performing custodial and facility maintenance.  Additionally, inmates can work in the agricultural operations at Hobby Unit, which include farming a peach orchard caring for security horses, and growing/harvesting a variety of edible crops.

Hobby Unit provides offenders with basic medical, dental and mental health services.  Inmates are also provided classes for literacy, life skills, parenting, adult basic education and can earn their GED during their incarceration.  Vocational studies include painting/decorating/design, restaurant management, computer information systems, and automotive brake servicing.  Substance abuse treatment is offered at Hobby Unit, and inmates have access to support groups like Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous.

Visiting Hours at Hobby Unit:

Visitation at Hobby Unit is held from 8am-5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  Visits are up to two hours in duration if space and time permits.  Furthermore, visitors can bring twenty dollars in quarters in a clear Ziploc bag to purchase items from the visiting room vending machines.
