Iowa Medical and Classification Center
Iowa Medical and Classification Center is located in Coralville part of Johnson County Iowa. This facility is sometimes referred to as Oakdale. As a medical and classification center this prison is responsible for treating inmates who have medical needs both physical and mental. In addition this facility is responsible for classifying and diagnosing all inmates who are entering the adult correctional system in Iowa. The number of inmates who cycle through this facility is approximately four to five hundred each month just for intake and classification. Other units at Iowa Medical and Classification center are responsible for treating the medical and psychiatric needs of inmates in the state.
Although this is a medical and classification center, the prison still offers educational courses to inmates. Offenders can take adult basic education and GED courses, in addition to post secondary education and special education classes as well. This facility can house upwards of 918 male and female inmates of mixed custody levels.
Visiting Hours at Iowa Medical and Classification Center:
Inmates who are in reception are not allowed to have visits. Once an inmate has gone through reception they are allowed visits. General population and patients have visitation on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 10:30am-8pm.
