Kentucky State Penitentiary
Kentucky State Penitentiary is located in Eddyville Kentucky, part of Lyon County. It is the only maximum security prison in the state and can house over 856 adult males. This facility is also responsible for housing all male death row inmates in the state. Offenders at this institution can participate in many programs that treat underlying conditions of the inmate's incarceration. These programs include sex offender treatment, substance abuse treatment, moral recognition therapy, and individual counseling.
Kentucky State Penitentiary also offers work programs that give the inmate employment in several correctional industries including a garment factory, a bag plant, landscaping, janitorial/maintenance, and food preparation services. Inmates can also take academic courses to earn an adult basic education and GED as well as learn to read.
Visiting Hours at Kentucky State Penitentiary:
General Population inmates and inmates on Outside Detail have visitation on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30am-1:45pm (no visits on the first and third Saturdays of the month). Protective Custody inmates have visitation on the first Saturday of each month from 7:30am-1:45pm. You must register to visit between 7:15am and 10am. Segregation visits are non-contact on Thursdays and are by appointment only that must be made at least seven days in advance.
