Kilby Correctional Facility and Reception Center
Kilby Correctional Facility has a capacity of over 1400 inmates. This correctional institution is considered maximum security because many of he inmates who pass through are unclassified when they first enter, then are evaluated and given an assignment to their more permanent facility based on that classification. Kilby also offers mental health and medical treatment for inmates across Alabama.
When an inmate first arrives at Kilby they will be unable to have visitors, make calls, or receive and send mail. Most inmates will only be housed here for a short period of time until their evaluation and classification is completed, then they will be sent to the appropriate facility. Kilby offers inmates a wide range of programs including substance abuse treatments, anger management, GED educational courses and various group and individual therapies.
Visiting Hours at Kilby Correctional Facility:
Inmates in Alabama usually have their initial processing and classification at Kilby, because of this many of the inmates do not qualify for visitation. An inmate must be housed here for over 90 days before they can apply for visiting privileges. Anyone who is not at Kilby for classification and reception and has been in the system a while can qualify for visits. Visiting is on Sundays.
