Maximum Security

The Maximum Security prison located in Cranston Rhode Island houses approximately 430 adult male offenders.  The facility is comprised of six housing and one segregation unit.  Inmates at this facility are secured by a wall, razor wire fencing, an electronic intrusion detection system, and five armed observation towers.  The Maximum Security prison in Rhode Island employs about 248 offenders in a variety of jobs, which include working in the facilities kitchen, laundry, library, and performing support services in barbering, custodial maintenance, and landscaping.

The Maximum Security facility in Rhode Island operates several industry programs which also employ inmates, these include a carpentry shop, a print shop and an industrial laundry operation.  This facility offers rehabilitative treatment programs for inmates that include anger management, domestic violence, sex offender treatment, substance abuse treatment, parenting courses, life skills classes and more.  All inmates who do not possess a diploma are highly encouraged to participate in adult basic education courses and should try to obtain their GED.
