McRae Correctional Institution
McRae Correctional Institution is a low security, contracted correctional institution located in McRae Helena of Telfair County, Georgia. Opened in 2000, CI McRae is owned by a private corporation called Corrections Corporation of America. The facility holds only male offenders and has a current inmate population of 1,627 offenders. Although the institution currently has only about 1,600 prisoners housed there, the prison has a maximum capacity of 2,275 prisoners. CI McRae is estimated to be about 367,395 square feet and is encompassed by two 12-foot fences. For housing, the institution 8 housing units. Of these 8 housing units, 4 are dormitory style, 3 are two-person housing units, and one is designed to be the Special Housing Unit.
Visiting Hours at McRae Correctional Institution:
- Visitation at McRae Correctional Institution occurs on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. Visitation will run from 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
- Each inmate can have up to 4 visitors at once, exclusive of young children.
- Any visitor who is 16 years of age and older must have valid photo identification in order to visit an inmate.
- Visitors may bring the following items into the visiting room:
- Feminine hygiene products
- Up to 5 diapers, a pacifier, and plastic bottle for infants
- Up to $20.00 in change for vending machines
