Joe Ney State Jail
Ney State Jail, sometimes referred to as Ney Unit, is located in Hondo Texas, part of Medina County. It is a state jail that houses a maximum of 576 male inmates in a minimum security setting. Ney State Jail offers an In-Prison therapeutic community (known as IPTC). IPTC is a nine month required program for some inmates who are incarcerated for substance abuse related crimes that must be completed in order to be released into supervision.
Ney State Jail has selective programs some inmates may qualify for. These include literacy classes, adult basic education and GED testing. Ney State Jail provides a pre-release program called CHANGES that helps prepare an offender for their upcoming release date. Inmates can participate in religious based studies and various support groups like Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous.
Visiting Hours at Ney State Jail:
Visitation at Ney State Jail is conducted on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 5pm. Inmates are allowed one visit per weekend. Visits may be up to two hours in duration but could be shorter if extenuating circumstances arise. Visitors are allowed to bring up to $20 in quarters with them to purchase items in the vending machines, these quarters must be contained in a clear plastic bag.
