SCI Somerset

Somerset State Correctional Institution is a medium security prison that houses approximately 2,365 adult male inmates.  The facility is consists of ten housing units, some of which are multiple occupancy cells and others are dormitory style.  One of the housing units at SCI Somerset has been designated as a special needs unit.  SCI Somerset participates in the correctional industries program employing offenders in an industrial laundry operation that is responsible for the cleaning of inmate clothing and linens for several correctional facilities, universities, veterans facilities and the department of public welfare.  Inmates can also participate in the community work program which provides inmate labor for various community projects and includes the landscaping and cleaning of the Flight 93 Memorial.

Somerset State Correctional Institution provides vocational training in carpentry, vinyl siding, electrical wiring, HVAC, custodial maintenance, barbering, and plumbing.  Additionally, offenders who do not have a diploma can take classes to earn an adult basic education and receive their GED.  SCI Somerset offers several programs to treat alcohol and substance abuse issues, and has mandatory high intensity programs for sex offenders.  Additional mental health treatment, parenting courses, and violence prevention classes are also available to inmates at SCI Somerset.

Visiting Hours at Somerset State Correctional Institution:

Visitation at SCI Somerset is conducted on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:30am-3:30pm.  This facility utilizes vending machine cards which have an initial cost of $5 and can be reused and loaded with more money each time you visit.  The vending machines in the visiting room have food and drinks.
