James Lynaugh Unit
The James Lynaugh Unit is a mixed custody prison located in Fort Stockton Texas, part of Pecos County. The facility houses up to 1,416 male minimum to medium custody offenders on over 1,300 acres of remote land. Offenders incarcerated at the Lynaugh Unit are provided off site medical, dental and mental health services.
Educational opportunities for inmates at this facility include the ability to earn a GED, adult basic education, and literacy programs Additional educational programs include a college degree program in new testament studies offered through the Chaplain's office. Vocational training is provided in electrical wiring, plumbing, and automotive air conditioning. Some inmates are eligible to work in the unit's garden, and in caring for security canines and horses.
Lynaugh Unit provides substance abuse education to all offenders who have drug and alcohol dependency issues. Furthermore, inmates can participate in support groups that include Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous. Programs provided to offenders who are close to their release date include re-entry planning which helps offenders prepare for finding a place to live, and work.
Visiting Hours for Lynaugh Unit:
Lynaugh Unit holds visitation for inmates on the weekends from 8am to 5pm (Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-5pm). Visits are generally limited to two hours in duration if space and time permits. Offenders are only allowed a single visit per weekend.
