Fort Worth Federal Medical Center

Fort Worth Federal Medical Center is a low security medical center located in Fort Worth of Tarrant County, Texas. Fort Worth FMC was formerly known as Fort Worth Federal Correctional Institution, however, the FCI was converted into a medical center as of early 2017. The medical center holds only male inmates who require special medical attention. The prison also deals with prisoners who have mental health issues. At Fort Worth FMC, the inmate population consists of a variety of offenders who were sent to the facility by court, transferred from other prisons, or are awaiting trial and sentencing. The prison currently holds 1,456 inmates. The facility is encompassed by a double perimeter fence. In addition, the medical center is secured by perimeter patrolling, electronically controlled access, and high mast lighting.

In 2012, several notable incidents occurred at Fort Worth FCI. In February of 2012, Michele O'Neal resigned from her position as a correctional officer at Fort Worth. O'Neal resigned after being found guilty and charged for the sexual abuse of a ward. O'Neal had been engaged in a consensual relationship with a prisoner at the facility. O'Neal was sentenced in October of 2012 and was expected to serve 2-3 years. Later on in 2012 during the month of October, 71 year old inmate Phillip Monroe Ballard was charged for soliciting the murder-for-hire of John McBryde. McBryde was a a U.S. district judge whose chambers were in Fort Worth, Texas. Allegedly Ballard wanted a third party to murder McBryde because Ballard believed that McBryde would declare him a 20 year sentence in prison. Ballard spoke with another inmate about murdering the judge and the inmate claimed he knew someone who could serve as the killer. Ballard offered the third party $100,000 in cash for killing McBryde. However, Ballard was caught when an undercover agent posed as the contract killer in a letter instructing Ballard where to make payments and who to call. As a result, Ballard was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Visiting Hours at Fort Worth Federal Medical Center:

Visiting to Fort Worth Medical Center is conducted on Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays.
Visiting hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Inmates are granted visitors on weekends and holidays depending on an even/odd schedule. The even/odd schedule depends on whether the fifth digit of the inmate's is an even or odd number. The even/odd schedule is as follows:
- April 15th - October 14th:
  - Saturday: odd
  - Sunday: even
  - Holidays: even during A.M. and odd during P.M.
- October 15th - April 14th:
  - Saturday: even
  - Sunday: odd
  - Holidays: odd during A.M. and even during P.M.
Prisoners receive 9 visiting points at the beginning of each month. 1 point is deducted for each weekday visit and 2 points are deducted for every weekend/holiday visit.
Each offender is allowed up to 6 visitors at once. The Jail Unit only grants inmates 2 adult visitors at once.
Visiting to the Jail Unit also follows an even/odd schedule
- Sunday and Thursday:
  - Morning - odd
  - Afternoon - even
- Monday, Friday, Saturday:
  - Morning - even
  - Afternoon - odd
- No visitation on Tuesday & Wednesday
- Morning visitation is from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Afternoon visitation occurs from 12:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Visits to the Jail Unit are limited to immediate family members.
The Jail Unit visiting unit only holds up to 15 visitors.
The following items are permitted into the visiting area:
- 1 half-gallon sized clear bag or purse
- Up to $25.00
- Life supporting medications
- Vehicle keys
- For infants:
  - 3 diapers
  - 1 unopened package of baby wipes
  - 1 change of clothes for the infant
  - 2 clear baby bottles with formula
  - 2 unopened jars of baby food
  - 1 receiving blanket
  - 1 clear cup
  - Clear plastic container no larger than 12" x 16"
