Miami Federal Correctional Institution
Miami Federal Correctional Institution is a low security institution with a nearby minimum security prison camp. The facility opened in 1976 and was originally used by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to house some of the Cubans who emigrated to Florida during the 1980 Mariel Boatlift. The prison is located in Miami, Florida. Both the FCI and camp house male offenders only, currently having a total inmate population of 1,325 offenders. Of the total inmate population, 942 inmates are incarcerated at the FCI and 383 inmates are incarcerated at the FPC.
FCI Miami encourages all inmates to work towards self improvement. To emphasize self improvement, the facilities offer a variety of programs to the offenders. The Education Department offers courses such General Education Development and English as a Second Language. In addition, offenders can also participate in vocational training. The FCI also has a Residential Drug Abuse Program in both English and Spanish. Inmates are given the opportunity to work through a UNICOR project operated by the Federal Prison Industries. The UNICOR factory produces garments where approximately 190 inmates are employed. The facilities offer psychology services, health services, and religious services as well.
Visiting Hours at Miami Federal Correctional Institution:
- The visiting schedule at Miami Federal Correctional Institution depends on if a visitor is visiting an inmate at the FCI or an inmate at the Camp. The FCI schedules visitation on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. However, the FCI bases visitation on an even/odd day schedule. At the Camp, there will be visitation on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the Camp on Fridays from 5:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.
