California Institution for Men

California Institution for men is located in Chino California and has the capacity to house over 6,200 inmates within the whole institution.  Offenders at this location can range from minimum to maximum custody, and many inmates start at Central Reception which is part of the California Institution for men.  Central reception is responsible for the initial intake and classification of offenders.  Inmates are evaluated, and classified into both their security needs as well as the needs of the offender.  From this assessment inmates are then sent to a more permanent facility or sometimes it is decided the best facility for them to be at is CIM.

California Institution for men has many programs designed to help inmates acquire a new skill that they can use to earn a living when they are released, as well as help out in the day to day operations of the facility.  This prison offers adult basic education, high school/GED courses, and a reading program designed to eliminate illiteracy.  Other vocational programs unique to this facility are a deep sea diving class, masonry and basic welding courses, and a print and graphics course.  A milk and juice processing/packaging facility and manufacturing building are some of the jobs inmates can do.

Visiting Hours at California Institution for Men:

Visiting hours at the California Institution for Men is on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am-3:00pm, if you arrive after 2pm you will not be allowed to visit for the day.  Visitors may park in the parking lot and enter visitation, they do not need to wait in their cars.  Visits are one hour long. California Department of Corrections now allows you to schedule a visiting appointment online here.
