Sending Mail to Inmates in Connecticut
Inmates incarcerated in Connecticut may receive letters from anyone, and may send letters to anyone with the exception of their victims, other inmates, or recently paroled inmates. Their is no limit to the number of letters that may be sent or received by the inmate, however the inmate must pay their own postage.
Offenders can also receive 4"x6" photos. The photos may not be instant or Polaroid photos. The images may also not contain any nudity, sexually suggestive material or have any hand/gang symbols or tattoos in them.
When sending mail to your inmate, format it in the following manner:
Inmate Name, ID Number
Facility Name
PO Box or Street address
City, State, zip code
How to Send Books and Magazines to Connecticut Inmates
You may also send your inmate in Connecticut books, magazines and newspapers, as long as they come directly from a publisher like Amazon.com. All books must be paperback, new, and must come directly from Amazon, no third party/resellers through Amazon. None of the books or magazines you send can contain nudity, maps, or have any content that could potentially put the safety or security of the facility at risk. Sending Money to Inmates in Connecticut
Offenders have access to money through a personal inmate trust fund. The inmate's trust fund works similar to a bank account. The inmate has access to their funds to purchase various items from the commissary such as paper, pens, stamps, envelopes, foods, snacks, hygiene items, clothing and more. You can send funds to an inmate by:
- Walk In
- Internet
- Phone
Before you can send the funds you will need to know the following information:
- The Inmates Name
- The Inmates Identification Number
- The current location of the inmate
Deposit by Walk In
Friends and family members can deposit money by visiting any MoneyGram location, this includes any CVS or Walmart. You will need to use the receive code 1222. The deposit may be made for a fee and can be paid with cash or debit card.
Deposit by Internet
You can also deposit money to an inmate's account online through three different companies. JPAY, TouchPay, and Western Union. Each of these companies charges a fee to send the funds, and allows you to use a debit or credit card.
Deposit Funds Over the Phone
Deposit funds to your Connecticut inmate's trust fund account over the phone by calling JPAY at 1-800-574-5729, or through Touchpay at 1-866-232-1899. Both of these companies charge a fee for sending the funds.
Deposit Funds Through the Mail
This is by far the cheapest method of sending funds to an inmate, as the fee associated with sending funds is the lowest. Using a certified/cashier's check, or a United States Postal Money Order, made payable to the inmates name and ID number. The remitter information, or the information about yourself that must be included on the check are your first and last name and full address.

Connecticut Inmate Phone Calls
All offenders are able to make outgoing collect calls. The inmate may submit up to ten phone numbers to their counselor that they will be allowed to make calls to. These calls may be recorded or monitored so you may want to keep that in mind when you are talking to your inmate. Under no circumstances can an inmate receive an incoming call or message, do not ask the staff to relay messages to the inmate, the answer will always be no. Call waiting or three way calling may trigger the call to terminate, and three way calling is prohibited. If there is an emergency that requires you contact the inmate, you can call and speak to the Lieutenants office, you must reference the inmates name, DOC number and relationship to the family emergency, or the phone number/address for the funeral home.
The phone service provider for Connecticut is Securus, and you must setup an account if you want to receive calls from your inmate. You can setup your account over the phone by calling 1-800-844-6591 or by visiting their website at securustech.net.
