Ely State Prison
Ely State Prison is a maximum security facility located in White Pine County Nevada. It can currently house approximately 1,185 adult male inmates. Ely State Prison participates in the Nevada Prison Industries employing inmates in the production of draperies, which are used internationally. Offenders can earn a GED and adult basic education while serving their sentence.
Ely State Prison has programs designed to change destructive behavioral patterns including anger management, life skills, domestic violence awareness, cage your rage, criminal thinking, financial literacy, anxiety awareness, starting over, new beginnings and more. Additionally, sex offender treatments include relapse prevention. Ely State Prison was recently the focus of lawsuits filed for inadequate medical care, and even saw rioting in 2011 due to allegations that the staff was damaging inmate's personal property during internal searches, failing to feed inmates, and restricting inmate's access to cleaning supplies, the riot ended with no serious injuries to inmates and staff occuring.
Visiting Hours at Ely State Prison:
All visitors should call ahead to verify the visiting schedule has not changed and that their inmate is still located at Ely State Prison.
- General Population Units 5,6,7 and 8A inmates have visitation on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am-2:45pm.
- General Population Unit 8B inmates have visiting on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9am-2:45pm.
- Maximum Lockup and CMU inmates have visits on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am-2:45pm.
- Minimum Custody inmates have visiting on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4:30pm-8:45pm.
