Donaldson Correctional Facility

Donaldson Correctional facility is also known as West Jefferson.  Originally the facility opened under the name West Jefferson, but in the 90's a correctional officer named William Donaldson was killed by an inmate.  The prison is home to over 1400 inmates.  You may recognize this institution from a documentary which follows inmates participating in a meditation course that was taught at the prison.  The course was eventually canceled, but claims to have had a great impact on the participants.  You can watch this documentary on Netflix.

This facility houses death row inmates as well as Maximum security prisoners.  Donaldson Correctional has the largest solitary confinement unit in Alabama and can hold up to 300 inmates.  Solitary confinement often referred to as segregation is a controversial method of holding some of the most troublesome and dangerous prisoners, and is often used as a behavioral deterrent to ensure inmates follow the rules and regulations of the prison.

Visiting Hours at Donaldson Correctional Facility:

Visitation at Donaldson Correctional Facility is on Saturdays from 8am-12:40pm.  Inmates are allowed a single visitation per month, and are given a pre-arrange date that they can have a visitor come, so you will need to contact the inmate directly to get his visitation day and time.
