SCI Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh State Correctional Institution is located in Allegheny County Pennsylvania. It is a mixed custody prison that houses medium to minimum security male inmates. Currently SCI Pittsburgh houses around 1,950 adult male inmates. This facility was closed in 2005 and then reopened in 2007 to help deal with the rise in offender population. Today the facility operates 42 buildings, ten of which are housing units. These housing units are comprised of a secure special needs unit, a normal special needs unit, a restricted housing unit, a reception center unit, an oncology and hemophilic patient unit, and five general population units.
Pittsburgh State Correctional Institution specializes in treating inmates who have alcohol and substance abuse problems, and utilizes therapeutic communities and out-patient programs to treat offender addiction. Vocational courses taught at SCI Pittsburgh include custodial maintenance, electrical wiring, barber management, and business education. Inmates can also take educational courses to earn an adult basic education and GED during their incarceration.
Visiting Hours at Pittsburgh State Correctional Institution:
Visitation at SCI Pittsburgh occurs everyday from 2:30pm-8:30pm. Visitors can purchase up to $50 in tokens prior to entering into the visiting room. The tokens can be used to purchase food and drink items from the visiting room.
