High Desert State Prison is located in Susanville California and houses about 3,660 inmates. Many of the inmates at High Desert State Prison are of a younger age, and all of the offenders vary in custody levels from minimum to high security offenders (the custody levels are rarely mixed).
Folsom State Prison is located in Represa California and is one of the oldest correctional facilities in the state, and was one of the first Maximum Security prisons to come into existence. Originally opened in the 1880's as one of the first maximum security institutions, today the facility houses minimum and medium security inmates.
Deuel Vocational Institution houses two different types of inmates, long term inmates who are in the general population of the facility, and reception center inmates who are only their for a short period of time. Inmates in the Reception Center will be evaluated and classified.
The Correctional Training Facility is located in Soledad California and provides corrections and rehabilitation to minimum and medium security inmates. The facility itself is actually comprised of three independent facilities, each with a different classification of inmate.
Chuckawalla Valley State Prison is located in Blythe California. The facility incarcerates minimum to medium security inmates. Originally this facility was constructed to hold almost 2,000 inmates, it currently houses over 4,000.
Central California Women's facility is located in Chowchilla. It provides intake, incarceration and rehabilitation to adult female inmate in California. It is currently the largest female facility in the state. It has a mental and medical services division which provides care for all of the inmates who need it.
Centinela State Prison is located in Imperial California. The facility houses over 5,000 inmates of varying custody levels. The main focus of this facility is for the inmates to take control of their lives through self development and improvement.
Calipatria State Prison holds inmates from a minimum to a maximum custody level. This facility is also used by immigration and Naturalization to incarcerate immigrants who have been detained and are close to being released. Although originally designed to hold much less, the facility now holds over 4,100 inmates.
As the name suggests, California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility has a primary focus on treating inmates who have substance abuse issues. The facility is comprised of multiple levels of offenders from level II to level IV. Education plays a major role at this facility, with programs designed to give inmates a basic adult education and GED.
California State Prison Solano is a medium security correctional facility located in Vacaville. The facility can house over 5,800 inmates even though it was originally designed to hold much less. The facility is comprised of multiple units housed in separate buildings which can operate independently from one another.
