Lakin Correctional Center is a maximum security prison located in West Columbia.  It has the distinction of being the only all female prison in the state.  Offenders incarcerated at Lakin Correctional Center range from minimum to maximum custody.  This prison has a capacity of 543 offenders.

Huntington Work Release Center is minimum security community based coed facility that houses up to 66 non-violent offenders in five dormitories.  The purpose of this facility is to provide the inmate with a successful transition from incarceration to a productive member of society.

Denmar Correctional Center is a medium security prison located in Hillsboro West Virginia.  The facility currently houses around 235 adult male offenders.  Denmar Correctional Center is secured by razor wire fencing, and multiple electronic detection devices including security cameras.

Charleston Correctional Center opened in 2015 and is one of the newest facilities in West Virginia.  This facility effectively replaced the Charleston Work Release Center.  Charleston Correctional Center is a coed facility and operates a residential substance abuse treatment program for up to 32 women, and a 96 bed coed work release unit.

Beckley Correctional Center is a minimum security community based prison located in Beckley West Virginia.  It has the capacity to house 137 offenders.  The majority of inmates at Beckley Correctional Center are males, and are housed in buildings one and two.

Washington State Penitentiary, sometimes referred to as Walla Walla State Penitentiary, is a maximum security prison.  This facility is the second largest prison in Washington and has the capacity to house 2,439 adult male offenders.  Washington State Penitentiary is where all the death row inmates are housed, and where the executions are performed.
