Maintaining a healthy relationship with an inmate through visitation has proven to aid in lowering the recidivism rate.  Visiting encourages inmates to better their lives and often gives the inmate something to look forward to.  One of the problems the department of corrections faces is the stigma attached to visiting an inmate.  Potential visitors often feel discouraged or even overwhelmed at the process of visiting and don't know where to start.

Fairbault Correctional Facility is a medium security prison in Minnesota.  It is can house over 2,000 adult male inmates of mixed custody levels.  The facility itself is comprised of the main medium security institution, and two minimum units that are outside of the security perimeter.

Woodland Center Correctional Facility is located in Whitmore Lake Michigan.  It is a level I and level IV facility that has a capacity to house 352 adult males.  Offenders are housed in one of six pods.  Many of the offenders located at this prison suffer from a severe mental illness and require separation from general prison populations.

Thumb Correctional Facility is located in Lapeer Michigan.  It is a level II facility with a capacity to house 1,216 juvenile and adult males.  Four of the housing units at Thumb Correctional Facility are for level II adults, and two of the units are for level II juveniles.

St. Louis Correctional Facility

St. Louis Correctional Facility is located in Gratiot County Michigan.  It is a level IV facility that can house 1,176 adult males.  Inmates in the general population are housed in one of six housing units, in addition there is an Adaptive skills residential program unit, and a segregation unit.

Saginaw Correctional Facility is located in Freeland Michigan.  It is a mixed custody facility that houses level I, II and IV inmates.  Currently, this facility can hold up to 1,488 adult males.  Inmates are separated and placed into custody level units, three of the buildings are level II, three are level IV and one is level I.
