Central Michigan Correctional Facility is located in St. Louis Michigan. It is a secure level I facility that can house 2,404 adult males. Inmates are housed in seven to eight bed open bay cells, with around 150 prisoners in each unit. There are sixteen housing units total.
Boyer Road Correctional Facility is actually comprised of two facilities, Carson City Correctional Facility East and Carson City Correctional Facility West. The two facilities were consolidated into Boyer Road Correctional Facility in August of 2009 and can now hold a total of 2,408 adult males.
Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility is the newest prison in the state of Michigan constructed in 2001. The prison is located in Ionia and is a mixed custody prison that houses level I, II, and IV inmates. In addition, this prison has a protective housing unit and an administrative segregation unit.
Baraga Correctional Facility is a mixed custody facility in Michigan that houses level I and level V adult male inmates. It is considered a maximum security institution because it houses level V offenders inside seven housing units surrounded by a secure perimeter.
Visitation is an important element of the rehabilitation process. When inmates have close ties to their family and community through visitation, they are less likely to have behavioral issues while incarcerated, and less likely to re-offend once release. Visitation is highly anticipated by inmates, but often times getting people to visit a correctional institution can be a challenge. Potential visitors often feel discouraged and overwhelmed at how to go about visiting an inmate.
Inmates incarcerated in Michigan prisons are allowed to receive written or typed letters, and photos. Incoming and outgoing mail can be opened and inspected, and in some cases read, with the exception of legal mail which can be opened and inspected in the presence of the inmate. Stamps, stickers, and other items are prohibited from being mailed to an inmate. Stamps, stationary, writing instruments and envelopes must be purchased by the inmate through the commissary.
Alger Correctional Facility is located in Munising Michigan. It is a level IV and II prison that can house 896 adult male offenders. Opened in August of 1990, Alger Correctional Facility consists of six housing units. The general population occupies four of the housing units, and segregation inmates occupy the other two units.
Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center is located in Shirley Massachusetts. It is a Maximum security prison that houses the most violent and dangerous offenders in Massachusetts.
South Middlesex Correctional Center is located in Framingham Massachusetts. It is a minimum/pre-release center that houses over 200 female inmates. The prison is comprised of a single three story building that has administration operations on the first floor, and houses inmates on the second and third floors.
Pondville Correctional Center is located in Norfolk Massachusetts. It is a minimum and pre-release center that houses about 205 inmates, about 50 of which are at a pre-release status. All inmates at this facility are expected to participate in work assignments unless they have a preexisting medical condition.
