QUEST is a juvenile corrections program for female offenders located in Custer South Dakota. Offenders here are housed in an open dormitory that holds up to 32 female offenders aged 14 to 17. Offenders are provided their own bed, personal storage area, closet and changing room. The facility houses mostly non-violent offenders.
Patrick Henry Brady Academy is located in Custer South Dakota. This facility treats juvenile males between the ages of 14 and 18. Brady Academy uses a multi pronged approach to treat offenders, using counseling, skill development, mentoring, and substance abuse treatment. Juveniles are housed in a dormitory setting with up to 48 other youths.
Mike Durfee State Prison is a medium custody prison located in Springfield South Dakota. Originally a coed facility, this prison now incarcerates male offenders only. The current capacity of Mike Durfee State Prison is 1,240 inmates. This facility also oversees the Yankton Minimum Unit, and the Rapid City Minimum Unit.
Jameson Annex is a mixed custody facility and part of South Dakota State Penitentiary. It is comprised of four units, three of which, units A, B and D, are located inside the secure perimeter and considered maximum custody. C Unit is a minimum custody housing unit that sits just outside of the perimeter fence.
Visitation has become one of the most important factors in an inmate's successful rehabilitation. Offenders who have more visitors are much more likely to stay out of trouble during their incarceration and have an active support system ready for them when they complete their sentence. Many friends and family members of inmates are unsure of how they go about visiting an offender.
Offenders in South Dakota are allowed to receive and send correspondence from friends and family members. All incoming mail must have the sender's full name and address on the upper left hand corner of the envelope. In addition, the inmate's full name, identification number and inmate mailing address must be present on the front of the envelope.

Aurora Plains Academy is a privately run institution that treats juveniles for a variety of issues and is located in Plankinton South Dakota. The company that operates the facility is Clinicare Corporation. Juveniles are treated here for behavioral issues, substance abuse, sexual offenses/issues, emotional and mental illness.
Wateree River Correctional Institution is a medium security level 2 facility that houses 993 youthful male offenders. Inmates can complete phases 1 and 2 of the Youthful Offenders Institution Services program here. Additionally this facility operates a SHOCK program for inmates who have been ordered to it by the court.
Walden and Stevenson Correctional Institution are located in Columbia South Carolina. The facilities are sometimes referred to as camps. They are level 1A and level 1B facilities that house a total of 694 minimum custody male inmates. Level 1A inmates are within 3 years of release and mostly non-violent offenders.
Tyger River Correctional Institution is a medium security level 2 facility that houses adult males. The current capacity of this prison is 1,160 inmates. Offenders are housed in double bunked cells, 173 offenders are triple bunked.
