Eastern Correctional Institution and Annex is comprised of two facilities, the institution and the annex. Located in Westover Maryland, this prison can incarcerate over 3,500 adult males ranging in custody level from medium to pre-release security levels.
Patuxent Institution, also known as Correctional Mental Health Center Jessup, is a maximum security prison that has a maximum capacity of approximately 1115 inmates. With a little over a thousand male inmates, the majority of offenders at this facility are males, with only 110 female offenders.
Chesapeake Detention Facility is located in Baltimore Maryland. It is a maximum security prison that houses over 500 of the states most violent offenders. This prison was formerly called a SuperMax. Chesapeake Detention Facility houses both male and female offenders, and is responsible for housing federal pre-trial detainees.
Central Maryland Correctional Facility is located in Sykesville Maryland. It is a minimum security institution that houses over 495 adult male inmates. On average, offenders stay at this prison about 18 months. This facility employs 119 people and has an annual operating cost of $14.4 million.
Baltimore Pre-Release Unit is a prison that prepares inmates for release located in Baltimore Maryland. It can house approximately 200 adult males, has a staff of 46 and operates on a $5.5 million dollar budget.
Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center is responsible for the intake and classification procedure for most inmates in the state. Because this is an intake facility, the inmate is usually only housed here a short period of time, and then transferred to their more permanent location after they are classified.
Brockbridge Correctional Facility is located in Jessup Maryland. It is a minimum security institution that houses over 640 adult males. Inmates at this prison can earn a GED, and take classes for reading, writing and math.

Anyone incarcerated in a Maryland prison is allowed to send and receive correspondence. Inmates must pay their own postage unless they are deemed indigent, in which case they are provided postage and writing materials for sending up to seven letters every week. To qualify as indigent the inmate must have had less than $4.00 in their account for over 30 days. All incoming mail can be opened and inspected for contraband. You may not send cash, stamps, or any other items with your correspondence.
