Yukon Kuskokwim houses both male and female inmates. The facility can hold approximately 200 inmates. Most of the inmates who are housed at this facility are short term pretrial detainees. The facility acts as an intake and classification center for the Alaska department of correction.
Wildwood correctional complex is comprised of three individual facilities; the Wildwood correctional center, the Wildwood Pretrial facility, and the Wildwood Transitional Program. Each of these facilities houses different types of inmates, and has different visiting hours and programs. A little over 450 inmates are housed between the three facilities.
Spring Creek Correctional Center can house over 500 inmates. Originally this facility was designed to house maximum security inmates, but now houses a variety of custody levels. This facility has many treatment programs aimed at increasing an inmates problem solving and coping skills.
Point MacKenzie Correctional Farm houses over 100 male offenders and is one of the most coveted facilities to be assigned to. Inmates must be a low/minimum custody offender to be sent here. Inmates help to operate a farm that provides an assortment of products to correctional facilities across Alaska.
Palmer Correctional Center houses both medium and minimum security inmates. The facility offers substance abuse treatment as well as psychiatric treatments for acute disorders. There is also a family violence intervention program based at this facility that helps offenders break the cycle of domestic violence.
Mat-Su pretrial facility is exactly as it is named, a correctional facility for offenders awaiting trial. Because of this, the custody and classification levels may not have yet been established and inmates can be in a mixture of offenders.
Lemon Creek Correctional Center is a maximum security facility that houses some of the most ruthless inmates in Alaska. The facility holds a little over 220 male and female inmates. Many inmates who are housed here are convicted felons, while about a quarter of the inmates are in the pre-trial phase of their judicial tour.
Ketchikan like most institutions offers a variety of programs the inmate can take advantage of during their stay. Two of the most common programs offered by this facility are Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, both are programs aimed at recovering from a dependency on substance abuse.
Hiland Mountain Correctional Center is home to about 400 female inmates. It has multiple custody levels and a variety of treatment programs. Some of the treatment programs are psychiatric units, they also offer a substance abuse treatment program. Many of the offender programs focus on self control and problem solving skills.
Goose Creek Correctional Center is a fairly new correctional facility. It opened in 2012 and can house approximately 3000 inmates. It serves as an intake and classification facility as well as a long term correctional center for medium security inmates.
