Approximately 875 adult males are housed in a medium security unit that has programs geared towards treating sex offenders and inmates with substance abuse issues.
Iowa State Penitentiary is located in Ft. Madison, part of Lee County Iowa. It is the only maximum security institution in the State of Iowa and can house around 934 inmates. Most of the offenders who are incarcerated here are violent repeat male offenders.
Iowa Medical and Classification Center is located in Coralville part of Johnson County Iowa. This facility is sometimes referred to as Oakdale. As a medical and classification center this prison is responsible for treating inmates who have medical needs both physical and mental.
Iowa Correctional Institution for Women, is also known as Mitchellville Prison for Women, because it is located in the town of Mitchellville, part of Polk County Iowa. It is a medium security institution that can house over 890 female offenders.
